swinging from a branch of a tree.
The Macaw’s cacophony-like laughter seemed,
To add salt to the injury!
Birds of varied feathers, screeched noisily,
and flew in circles inside the cage.
The hippopotamus lazily rose from the water,
shaking its head, as if in a fit of rage!
The noise awoke the python and it snorted,
angrily, at the created disturbance.
These bunch of homo sapiens know no kindness,
the deers seem to mutter in annoyance!
The alligator lay basking in the sun and,
shedding large crocodile tears.
Wish I could jump out of the moat, he laments,
and induce in these visitors, some fear!
Fishes swam excitedly in turbid waters,
disturbed by this sea of visitors.
Their tiny brains failed to grasp the reason,
for such a rush in the morning hour!
“Shame on you, superior race”, from behind the bars
came the cry in unision.
“For selfish pleasure, you have sometimes
degenerated the entire animal generations”.
“Homo sapiens are nothing but animals,
of a breed of the superior kind.
The pain of being born in a prison, Pray,
why does it not bother you sometime?”
“You love the feel of fresh air, and
On a nation’s army you spend a fortune.
Please do not build gilded cages for your pleasures alone,
but save the animal world from doom.”
Had written this quite sometime back after a visit to Nandan kanan. Was suddenly reminded of it while passing through Alipore the other day.
