Hotel Fariyas-at Lonavla.

307. Fariyas
The signboard to Fariyas can be seen from the highway itself but the last mile approach road is a little tricky, making its way over a tiny stream that seems to start from the clump of trees on the right and then losing itself into the clump of trees on the left. This stream and the narrow bridge evokes an immediate sense of peace and makes me want to let go of my muscles, taut from  passing through a congested Mumbai-Pune highway! A few twists and turns of the road following the sign boards and then you are there at your destination!
There's something about Fariyas, the resort, that seems to grip you the moment you step into the spacious lobby. The spacious lobby appears even more spacious because it steps down into the main eating area, the buffet hall. The aroma of the food and the hustle bustle of people moving around in that area, chatting and laughing while they tuck into their food should definitely bring a sense of happiness into hearts of even the staunchest sceptic and put to rest any anxiety they might have had hitherto, about their place of stay.
Fariyas is all about stopping time dead on its tracks. Passage of time is marked by a cacophony of sound that life emits as it moves hand in hand with time. At Fariyas, when you are in your room, all you can hear are the sounds of the birds and the occasional blast of horn from the passing train. Sitting in the balcony of my room I watched the squirrel get startled, perhaps by the train whistle, and scamper along to branch to hide amongst the leafy boughs.
The balcony is the most important and perhaps the most beautiful thing in Fariyas Resort. From the balcony of your room you can take in the sights and sounds of Lonavla-the play of colours at the horizon during sunrise, the foliage of soothing green all around interspersed with flocks of violet or yellow flowers; from the balcony of my room, I could even see the gradual march of civilisation up the slopes of an adjacent hill!
The rooms themselves are cozy and comfortable - I have stayed twice, once in a suite which was excellent and at other time in a normal room that was spacious and  comfortable.
By way of activity at Fariyas there's of course the swimming pool for those who can swim and also a TT table and a gym. Those who prefer to take long walks have to do so outside the resort, taking to the roads outside.
So what does one do after one has had a full of nature gazing and walking? Why... Dig into the rows of food lined up in the coffee shop, of course! At Fariyas, the wide array of food would be sure to delight cockles of any foodie's heart. The number of non vegetarian items may be less but for a vegetarian there's plenty of options from Marathi cuisine to Chinese to traditional North Indian cuisine. Special mention must b e made of their desserts which leave one craving for more.
Fariyas is a popular conference and wedding destination and I have found the place full on both occasions that I have visited the place. But for those who love to gaze at the stars in the darkness of the night, my advice is- do spend a day or two at Fariyas. Am sure you  won't be disappointed!
